The FK range is where you find our larger capacity fusing and slumping kilns starting at the FK6 with internals of 1050mm x 1050mm x 265mm.

The combination of reliability, quality, reputation and high levels of recommendation keep the FK at the top of the pile. They are the most proven kilns made in the U.K.

The entire range is designed to reach 700c in around 40 minutes except the extreme sized versions. Although this is faster than most glass will withstand, it does help to quickly stabilize the kiln temperature if the lid has been opened whilst hot for raking etc.

The FK range is designed to be totally functional, simple and easily to maintain.
For instance, in the rare event of having to replace an element or tube, the lid is easily removed and the kiln is worked on like working on a bench, this is as easy as it gets and requires very little space around the kiln.

The lid seal is not stuck on but is held in by a removable stainless steel picture frame and as such, in the event of damage, it is fully replaceable leaving a factory fitted finish that will give years more trouble free use.

All FK kilns are fired to 800c with the chosen programmer before despatch to ensure perfect operation, calibration and removal of most of the binder vapours that are released by all kilns on the first firing.

Ventilation

 

Design is very much at the fore-front of these kilns and there is no better example of this than our unique, stainless steel lid design which both vastly reduces cooling time and aids in the expulsion of moisture from within the kiln chamber. 


There are vent holes in the roof of the kiln to aid with faster cooling and help extract steam if any moisture is present.
The roof vent holes are closed off with stainless steel vent flaps with our unique, anti-dust, glass fibre insulation pads.


There are viewing/cooling points in the side/s of the kilns.

High Grade, lightwieght bricks.

The floor of these kilns is made from high grade, lightwieght insulation bricks that give both a structurally steady surface to place the work on and a thermally steady base to aid in maximum glass results.


Each floor is hand worked to ensure the bed is as flat as possible. 
As the bricks are not cemented in, they are easily replaced if required.


The floor is flat and has no retaining wall, this design is a real bonus when loading larger pieces into the kiln as they can be gently slid into position rather than having to lower then into, what may be, a space not much bigger than th

e glass, making handling difficult. The flat floor method also gives a much clearer visual inspection of the work before it is fired.

Heavy duty under floor walk mesh structure

Under the floor is where the FK Range excels. Under the brickwork, the floor structure is made from heavy duty walk mesh that expands with heat without distorting, offers superb physical strength and breathes, so, as with the roof of the kiln, helps and aids cooling dramatically.

 

Infra-red quartz element system

The elements are wound with Kanthal A1, renowned as the worlds best element wire. The elements in inside quartz tubes and the quartz tube element system we use is becoming widely known as "infra-red" kiln heating.
The heating system is in the roof only on FK kilns.
The heating system runs from left to right on all FK kilns apart from FK285 and larger due to the size of span required for them.

Safety

Each kiln has an over temperature heat fuse circuit with its own safety contactor to protect the kiln in the event of a disaster

.

The electrics are mounted below the level of the floor and are also to the outside of the frame to combat high ambient temperatures under the floor and so vastly increasing the life of the electrics.

The Kilncare Electri-lift system

 

The controller for the kiln can be held remotely to make programming the kiln an easy and comfortable process.

KCR32CWIFI controller

 

The Electri-lift system is available as an option on all FK and FK-R models.

It is an all electric remote lid lift. It makes the opening and closing of the kiln chamber a simple press of a button. Simple as that.

However the system is far from simple and technologically advanced with internal overloads, regulators and also auto syncronisation to ensure that both sides of the chamber are lifted simulatanously.

The Electri-lift is powered directly from the kiln and does not require an additional electrical supply.

  • 32 programs - each with up to 32 segments.

  • Each segment is a controlled heating/cooling ramp soak.

  • Suitable for glass or ceramics use.

  • Soak times up to nearly 100 hours.

  • Ramp rates from 1 to 999°C/hour full.

The KCR32CWIFI is multi-program controller designed for glass, ceramics & pottery use. It is targeted towards glass use with 32 programs each of up to 32 segments. Each segment is a controlled heating/cooling ramp followed by a soak. It is supplied pre-programmed with 9 typical glass programs and 9 typical ceramics programs (which can be over-written).


The slow rate capability of the KCR32CWIFI, down to 1c per hour, makes it the perfect controller for complicated glass cycles.

The KCR32CWIFi has the capability to be accessed and controlled remotely from your mobile device.

This is one of the most important advances in Kilncare kilns for many years.

Using Kilncares GATEway access site you can view how your kiln is running in real time. Stop the firing or adjust programs all without even being in the same country let alone the same room.

 

The KCR32WIFI is also fitted with a USB port that allows programs to be entered that way direct from PC if required and also allows us to apply updates and run diagnostics without travelling to your kiln.
