FK range of glass fusing and slumping kilns.

THE FK RANGE CONTINUES TO BE THE UK'S FAVOURITE FUSING AND SLUMPING KILNS.

The combination of reliability, quality, reputation and high levels of recommendation keep the FK at the top of the pile. They are the most proven kilns made in the U.K. The list below are just some of the standard features on every FK kiln.

Unique stainless steel roof section,     Flat, stable floor,      Replaceable refractory brick floor,      Replaceble lid seal,       Kanthal A1 elements,       Kilns can be split for tight access,      Stainless Steel case edges and Roof section,       Powder coated finish,       All FK kilns on  castors,       Roof and side ventilation on all models with "anti-dust" stainless flaps,       Heat Fuse protection,         Low level electrics to ensure cool running and long life,         No ceramic fibre,         Easy to maintain,       Choice of control,        Kilns fired to 750c before despatch,       2 year guarantee,

Design is very much at the fore-front of these kilns and there is no better example of this than our unique, stainless steel lid design which both vastly reduces cooling time and aids in the expulsion of moisture from within the kiln chamber.

The entire range, except the FK3, is designed to reach 700c in around 30-40 minutes. Although this is faster than most glass will withstand, it does help to quickly stabilize the kiln temperature if the lid has been opened whilst hot for raking etc. The range is very economical with an average 7 hour firing in a FK7 firing costing around £2.00.

The floor of these kilns is made from high grade, lightwieght insulation bricks that give both a structurally steady surface to place the work on and a thermally steady base to aid in maximum glass results.
Each floor is hand worked to ensure the bed is as flat as possible.
As the bricks are not cemented in, they are easily replaced if required.
The floor is flat and has no retaining wall, this design is a real bonus when loading larger pieces into the kiln as they can be gently slid into position rather than having to lower then into, what may be, a space not much bigger than the glass, making handling difficult. The flat floor method also gives a much clearer visual inspection of the work before it is fired.

The elements are on high quality ceramic rods and are wound with Kanthal A1, renowned as the worlds best element wire. The elements are wound around the outside of the tube as recommended by Kanthal to give maximum element life and maximum efficiency for an infra-red heat producing system.
Using A1 eliminates any possibility of element flaking causing small particles to drop down onto the glass.

The metalwork of the kiln has many features of its own.
The handle and the rear power box can be easily removed to reduce the kiln to its smallest possible size as more increasingly, these kilns are finding their way through small doors. If that is still not enough, the kiln will split down to 2 sections, the chamber and the base/legs.
The handle has 2 positions. In its default position it is at 90 degrees to the chamber and can be easily altered to be in a more down facing position to assist shorter users.
On the FK6 and above the under floor steel sheet is replaced with heavy duty walk mesh to aid cooling and to keep a strong, stable bed.
As with all our kilns, the frames are powder coated and oven baked.
All FK kilns are on lockable castors.

All FK kilns include roof ventilation on all models.
There are vent holes in the roof of the kiln to aid with faster cooling and help extract steam if any moisture is present.
There are vieiwng/cooling points in the side/s of the kilns.
Stainless steel vent flaps are fited to all vents rather than the traditonal vent bungs that tend to get broken and can also cause dust to enter the chamber during use.
As metioned earlier, the unique stainless roof aids in venting the chamber.

Each kiln has an over temperature heat fuse with its own safety contactor to protect the kiln in the event of a disaster.

The electrics are mounted below the level of the floor and are also to the outside of the frame to combat high ambient temperatures under the floor and so vastly increasing the life of the electrics.

The FK range is designed to be totally functional, simple and easily to maintain.
For instance, in the rare event of having to replace an element or tube, the lid is easily removed and the kiln is worked on like working on a bench, this is as easy as it gets and requires very little space around the kiln.

The lid seal is not stuck on but is held in by a removable stainless steel picture frame and as such, in the event of damage, it is fully replaceable leaving a factory fitted finish that will give years more trouble free use.

All FK kilns are fired to 750c with the chosen programmer before despatch to ensure perfect operation, callibration and removal of most of the binder vapours that are released by all kilns on the first firing.

All FK kilns carry a 2 year guarantee on all parts including elements. This guarantee does not cover the thermal heat fuse where each one is looked at on a case by case basis.

Whether you buy your kiln through ourselves or one of our many agents you can rest assured that service and quality back up is never far away and technical questions can be answered by the actual people that make the kiln - priceless.

All kilns contain no ceramic fibre.

Basic kiln price includes kiln with 1050c heat fuse, type K thermocouple and multi-pin control socket.

The kilns are fitted with either the ST315 or 3300 controllers depending on customer choice.
Both controllers offer multi-segment, multi-program control and the details for the controllers are here.
